Sierra Leone is a West African country known for its beaches, rainforest, and culture. The capital is Freetown, located on a peninsula along the Atlantic Ocean.
Entry requirement for travellers
Travelers must meet the appropriate entry requirements to Sierra Leone. Your can also contact Sierra Leone Embassie or consulate in your country of origine. Most countries can get a visa at the airport for about $80 USD (tourism/business). Countries that can obtain visa at the port of entry include the United Kingdom, EU European Union citizens, United States, Brazil, most Asian and Middle East countries. In general, citizens from most countries outside West Africa must get a visa (or visa on arrival/e-visa) before entering Sierra Leone. Citizens of ECOWAS countries can enter visa-free
Visitors must also meet the following entry requirements:
· Passport valid 6 months or more
· Yellow fever vaccination certificate
· Return or onward ticket
· Visa on arrival, E-visa: apply online before travelling and
· Tourist visa validity: usually up to 90 days about $80 USD
· Airport Security Fee $25 USD on arrival and departure.
Flights to Freetown
There are no frequent direct flights to Sierra Leone, so many routes connect via cities such as Brussels, Istanbul or Casablanca ... Flights usually land at Freetown International Airport in Lungi. Then travel to Freetown mainland is done by ferry or water taxi.
Health Requirements
It is mandatory for all travellers to have a yellow fever vaccination certificate prior entry into the country. Other recommended vaccines and precautions include, malaria prevention tablets, hepatitis A & B, typhoid, rabies (for long stays). Travel insurance with medical evacuation cover is strongly recommended.
Safety
Though Sierra Leonians are generally very friendly welcoming people, travel advisory generally says visitors must exercise increased caution as pickpocketing and robbery in some areas of Freetown. You should avoid walking alone at night, arrange transport through hotels or trusted drivers. Do not show valuables and avoid photographing government buildings or military areas
Money
The local currency in Sierra Leonean is Leone (SLE). Cash is widely used throughout the country but you can also easily exchange US dollars or pounds locally. Also, ATMs exist mainly in Freetown
